I’ve seen ads for the game Atlas Earth for several years now, but I never pulled the trigger. Maybe that was a bad call on my part, but it always seemed very gimmicky. It’s basically a mobile app filled with ads that lets you “purchase” digital parcels of land mapped over a real-world GPS grid — think Pokemon Go, but more boring. I’ll try to make this fairly simple as I only started testing it two days ago.
You buy parcels with Atlas Bucks — 100 of them to be exact — and parcels can have status of Common through Legendary. These make you “real” money that you can cash out at a rate of $0.0000000011 to $0.0000000044 per second. That means a Common plot takes 28 years to make $, while a Legendary plot takes 7 years. The idea is that, gradually over time, you accumulate hundreds of thousands of parcels.
They incentivize you with up to 20 ads per day that give you an hour of boost each (stacking up to 6 hours at a time) to multiply earnings by 30x, along with monthly events that boost you by 50x. According to their own published math, a player who does the daily 30X boost at the peak of the Tier 1 bracket (150 plots) can make $221 per year. I’ll link their official math here.
As you can see above, ignoring the game with 150 parcels generates $0.6266 per month or $7.50 a year. If you watch 20 ads per day, they say you can make $15 per month. This is pretty good. That’s a few bills paid. There are also ads every 20 minutes that give you two Atlas Bucks, mini games, and shopping offers that award AB — plus, of course, shelling out real money. If you played the 20-minute ads perfectly and did nothing else you could generate around 144 AB per day, buying you around 9 plots per week. That gets you to the 150-plot point in 16 days. 16 days of grinding, followed by about 20 minutes of ad-tapping spread throughout a day to make $15 a month doesn’t seem terrible. If we use our Magic MMM numbers, $15 per month has a compound investing potential of $2,595.
There are several other boosts — and an entire Reddit community dedicated to the math behind not exceeding the 150 plots until you can jump straight to 220 in order to offset the 30X-to-20X drop — but I decided to run an experiment. I put $100 into the game on day one and bought 22 parcels plus 1 passport badge, which unlocked 5% bonus growth rate. Passports cap out at 25% permanent boost at 101 badges, but cost 200 AB each and require you to physically visit different cities and states to buy them.
I’m currently at around 20 cents earned in roughly 36 hours. I’ve spent 200 AB (that could have gone to parcels) to buy a badge in a town I’m not normally in, putting me at 2 out of the 11 needed for Level 2. I have 26 parcels total, meaning I’ve earned 3,000 AB so far (2,400 of which was bought with the $100).

Because the passport 5% bonus applies first, we’re actually calculating off of $0.003701376 per day before the ad related boosts. This should be a fun experiment.
