As the weather starts to cool down, my family likes to do at least one seasonal activity that has almost forty years of tradition behind it: We go Apple Picking.

This year, we were a little late, and several of the varieties we usually go after were done harvesting — but it was a blast, as usual. My grandfather would take me and my mom to pick apples every fall, now we continue the tradition with my children. He always said you needed to wait till after the first frost, but that was pretty late this year.
This led me to a nice conversation with my son over dinner the other day, it was about how we, as people in communities, seem to be losing our connections to where we live –between the ease at which we can move between places for work or school, and the internet, which connects us while separating us at the same time. My son, all on his own, decided to volunteer to serve dinner at a few church events, and I think that that is exactly the kind of stuff I’m talking about.
Fall also brings the joys of Halloween, the warmth of Thanksgiving, the gift of giving with Christmas, and the retrospective of a year worth living in New Years. I apologize for the lack of content last week, but it was Friday before I realized I hadn’t written a thing all week.
Happy Fall Everyone
