Today is an overlooked holiday in the US. Many people, especially younger people, associate it with BBQs and Cookouts. When it’s really a day to remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their Nation by dying in the line of duty.
My day oddly enough will involve a cookout…if these Spring rains ever stop. When I was active duty my job ended up in a non-deployable bucket and was not able to make it overseas. Surprisingly, everyone I worked with when I was Active Duty made it home. My older brother was a medic, he won’t talk about any of his friends not making it home. My coworkers when I worked with Central Command (Middle East Bases) had many stories. Coworkers, siblings, etc.
I rarely drink, but I’ll have a beer today in their honor. My kids will play in the yard and grandparents will join us for food. My flag will be out. I don’t have any other things planned.
