There’s a really famous YMCA camp on Lake Erie called Camp Fitch. It’s roughly 90 minutes from us. They’ve been a leader in child safety for decades.
Almost all the schools between Cleveland and Pittsburgh have weekday trips at the middle school levels for kids to experience it. I still remember when I got to go in fifth grade. I was never able to go for summer camp though. My wife is a life long Girl Scout. Summer Camp, Winter Camp, Horse Camp, you name it, and she’s done it and run it. Our oldest got to do a lot of girl scout camping, but our middle two only a few family camp outs.
Last Summer my son got to do Camp Fitch and absolutely fell in love. He made friends from all over the country and even from outside the US. They have no phones, no computers, just kids and nature. They even sleep in open air cabanas. This year my youngest is old enough to go and my son is staying for two weeks. One of which will be all about horses. He even asked during his school’s winter trip what he needs to do to work at Camp Fitch when he’s older.
I’m talking about this because today is open house. Parents and kids get to walk around and see everything, even the beach. Which is going to be really fun for my Mother in Law who hasn’t gotten to see camp yet.
Happy Sunday Everyone.
