I post a decent amount on Facebook, and a ton on X as I journey toward monetization to fuel the Dividend Snowball Experiment. I find myself repeating many of the same catechisms.
“Rich and Poor are how you think”, “Discipline wins in the long run”, “Building Community is vital to success”.
I think this is something that gets overlooked frequently in life, especially in the digital age when people don’t like to feel uncomfortable. They hold up inside their own online ecosystems. It’s easy to forget how new the concept of being always online is to humanity. It also means that we consolidate our groups and activities so we interact with way less people than we did when we had to go in person.
I see people online constantly struggling with saving, bills, expenses, etc. They pay for help, pay for door dash, pay for a plumber, pay a mechanic. In the past, our grandparent’s generation, they would try to do as much as they could themselves. Alternatively, if someone had a skill like baking, or electrical they would trade off with a plumber friend or a window fixer.
It doesn’t need to a be a church group of a moose lodge, it could just be talking to your neighbors. Let’s bring back block parties and caroling. I saw so many people helping shovel and plow each other’s drive ways this winter during Snowpocalypse. It was truly amazing.
For once I actually posted a ‘mini thought’.
