I’m a big proponent of discipline, I talk about it frequently. I’m not sure if it’s writer’s block or summer wanderlust, but my motivation to write and post has been pretty low this week.

I think that perhaps I need to write out some more short term goals outside of my regularly scheduled stock buys and debt payments. I feel like there are so many things that I would like to continue to cover, but I haven’t been able to articulate what those are currently.

I did find it interesting that I recently saw a string of posts on X about how the 4% rule isn’t actually used by anyone who has retired early. I think that’s a load of BS, but when I attempted to raise questions about how it’s “wrong” or “not viable” I got the response, “It’s not worth arguing about.”

If anyone has any suggestions on what in the world could be a better optimal metric to track retirement goals than the 4% rule please let me know. Some people advocate for 3% as safer than 4% but I can’t find any reasonable explanation that the 4% rule is only for people selling you something vs actual retirees utilizing it.
