My oldest turned 17 this week. My Son turned 13 in December and my youngest will turn 9 in the summer. When I was a kid, we had birthday parties all year long for classmates. It was a blast.
My oldest had at least five parties a year when she was in Elementary School. My youngest has gotten one or two each year, plus her own party where we invite everyone.
I’m writing this because my kids are going to the birthday party of a friend’s youngest today and the kid’s sister’s birthday party is the following weekend. These are the only parties we’ve seen invites for this year, and that is sad.
I think part of this is because people feel the need to go somewhere and spend a bunch of money on a kid’s party, but when I was a kid they were at people’s houses in the yard with a few pizzas and no expensive bouncy house or other purchases. Just kids playing with each other and having fun. We need to bring that back because the socializing is way more important than the activity.
