Crimson King Maple Tree fully grown.
Not my tree…yet.

Last week I posted several times about my cat passing. Last Frugal Friday I posted about my frugal attempts at burying my pet in my childhood pet cemetery in my backyard.

Well it did not work out as expected. I dug through several large roots near my buckeye tree and was getting a decent sized hole created when I started to hear an incessant beeping sound from my garage.

Upon further investigation I discovered that I had cut right through my dog’s Invisible Fence wire. This resulted in me relocating my pet’s grave site to the hollowed out stump of a 200 year old oak tree in my back yard. My original plan was to plant an oak right inside the stump and fill it with dirt, but with my cat in there we picked a Crimson Maple.

This had to be done relatively quickly as it was getting warmer outside and we didn’t want to delay the burial longer.

So how does this turn frugality sideways? Well I built the box by hand and dug the hole by hand to save the roughly $100-150 in cremation costs. However to plant the tree and fill the stump with dirt cost me around $180. Then having Invisible Fence come out to repair the fence cost another $200. Sometimes in our attempts to be frugal we take the cost of something and quadruple it. It sucks but what can you do? The first thing is to always remember where buried wires are in your back yard.

Have a great holiday weekend, I hope everyone’s kids have an awesome Easter Bunny visit.
